PORT AGENT

A full time position has has arisen within MH Bland SL operations department in Cartagena.

Purpose: Co-ordinate / act upon all vessel´s requirements on behalf of the Principal (MH Bland). Ensure that the Principals´ interests are protected at all times and always keeping close contact with all parties involved in operation.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with suppliers / customers / authorities on vessel’s requirements.

  • Co-ordinate all deliveries to vessel with the respective parties so as to ensure that there are no delays in providing required services.

  • Attendance onboard vessel to clear vessel into port and to complete delivery of services/goods.

  • Keep the Principal advised of all operational movements.

  • Assist other Port Agents in resolving issues.

  • Co-ordinate the compilation and preparation of all invoices relevant to that particular vessels disbursement account.

  • Prepared to work under one´s own initiative.

  • Keep the Operations Manager informed of developments.

  • Proactively follow and review the quality procedures and work instructions, in order to constantly streamline and improve them.

  • Demonstrate a proactive attitude toward learning and grow the role within the department.

  • Compile the operations file when not on duty, assisting the Port Agent on duty.

  • Provide quotations for services.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience as a Portg Agent (advantageous).

  • Previous experience in port and Maritime Services (preferred).

  • Must be fully conversant with all the appropriate regulations and requirements relating to the port, area, or sector in which the agency operates.

  • Excellent telephone manner and communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • High level of written and verbal English.

  • Duty work on weekly basis.

  • Good organization skills.

  • Holding of clean driving license is essential Class “B”.

  • The ability to swim is essential.

  • Good seaman.

  • Good all-round skills in MS Office applications and any other software used in the Agency Department. Ability and willingness to learn any new tools brought into the department.

  • Technical awareness, i.e. able to comprehend the operating system environment used in the department.

  • Ability to manage own time.

  • Proactively seek and share information with colleagues.

  • ISO Audit training skills.
